JAKARTA UTARA

Jakarta Utara, in 28 cameras.

Jakarta Utara is the port and the coast — Tanjung Priok, the long flat stretches of reclaimed land, and the older fishing kampung that survive in the gaps between container terminals. The cameras here look outward as often as inward, framing the long approaches to the port and the slow, salt-bleached intersections of the northern coast road.

What you'll see

The container traffic at Priok, the long causeway approaches into Ancol, and the wide flat boulevards of Sunter and Kelapa Gading. A handful of lenses sit at the entrance points to the toll road that runs along the coast. Expect heavier weather than the southern districts — the air is saltier, the light flatter, and the cameras tend to fog earlier in the season.

Notable streets

  • Jalan Yos Sudarso
  • Jalan R.E. Martadinata
  • Jalan Boulevard Raya
  • Jalan Pluit Selatan
  • Jalan Lodan Raya

About the coverage

Coverage along the coast is thinner than the central districts, and weighted toward the port-access roads and the toll system. The kampung streets behind the container yards are mostly unwatched. When a camera goes dark in Jakarta Utara, the salt air is often to blame, and the recovery time is correspondingly longer.
