Streetside is built around a simple principle: surveillance asymmetry is bad enough already. We don't want to add to it. So this site collects, stores, and shares the absolute minimum about you — and nothing at all that we could sell, profile, or hand to a third party.
What we collect
No accounts. There is no signup, login, or user record of any kind.
No analytics. We don't run Google Analytics, Plausible, Fathom, Cloudflare Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or any equivalent. There is no tracking pixel on any page.
No cookies. The site sets no cookies. Your browser may receive cookies from third parties (see below), but Streetside itself sets none.
No advertising. No ads, no ad networks, no affiliate links, no retargeting.
Geolocation on the Nearby page
The Nearby page asks your browser for your latitude and longitude using the standard navigator.geolocation API. Your browser will prompt you for permission. Your coordinates are used purely to sort the camera list by straight-line distance, in your browser, on your device. They are never transmitted to our server, never logged, and never stored. You can revoke the permission at any time in your browser's site settings.
Server logs
Streetside is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare maintains standard edge access logs (IP, user-agent, request URL, timestamp) per their privacy policy. Streetside itself does not pull, retain, analyse, or share these logs. We have no operational use for them.
Third-party services
Three external parties may receive a request from your browser when you use Streetside:
- Cloudflare — hosts the site, the edge cache, the KV store, and the image/video proxies. Privacy policy linked above.
- Maptiler — serves the basemap tiles on the Atlas page. Their privacy policy governs that interaction.
- Google Fonts — the typefaces (Fraunces, Newsreader, JetBrains Mono) are loaded from Google's CDN. Their privacy policy applies.
The CCTV cameras themselves
The cameras you see on Streetside are owned and operated by the DKI Jakarta provincial government. They were installed for public safety and traffic management. Their imagery is already public — it streams openly on the government's own portals — and Streetside merely provides a more navigable index of that pre-existing public feed.
We have no editorial control over what the cameras point at, when they're online, or what they record. We do not host the video; we proxy a live HLS stream so your browser doesn't talk to the upstream directly. We retain none of the imagery.
If you operate a property visible from one of these cameras and have concerns, the camera is the government's, not ours. We would, however, be glad to remove a specific camera from our index on request — write to hello@streetside.mugnimaestra.dev.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, the GDPR / UK GDPR / Indonesian PDP Law access, deletion, and portability requests are essentially trivial: there's nothing to access, delete, or port. If you believe we're holding something we shouldn't be, please write to us at the address above and we will investigate within seven days.
Changes to this notice
If our data practices change — for example, if we ever introduce optional analytics, or accept payments, or add user accounts — we will revise this notice and date the change clearly. The current version is the most recent.
